Crochet Eyeglass Case
Learn to make a crochet eyeglass case using only a hexagon!
If you don’t wear eyeglasses or sunglasses, this cute crochet pouch can also be used as a crochet hook case.
You’ll find the crochet glasses case pattern free in the post below, or an ad-free print friendly PDF (including all photo tutorials) on Ravelry, or on Etsy (aff).
This eyeglass case was the quick crochet project we made during a recent Mini-Mystery Crochet Along. A few crocheters who don’t wear eyeglasses added a crochet strap to theirs to use it as a small carrying pouch for their cell phones.
I made two small pouches so that I could use one as a cute glasses case and the other as a crochet hooks case.

How to Crochet an Eyeglass Case
To make this eyeglass pouch, first, you’ll learn how to crochet a hexagon.
Hexagons are crocheted in the round, from the center out. You’ll need to crochet five hexagons to make this small pouch.
After crocheting all five hexagons, you’ll lay them out as shown in the photos and graphic, then you’ll whipstitch them together.
Once all five hexagons are joined, you’ll then fold them in a specific way, following the step-by-step photo tutorial. You’ll then finish seaming them to create the eyeglass case.
Lastly, you’ll choose the type of closure your crochet eyeglass case will have. If you’ve chosen a button closure, you’ll finish your pouch by attaching a button with a needle and thread. If you’ve chosen a yarn strap closure, you’ll join yarn and create a short chain to finish your pouch.
Yarn
The cream colored eyeglass case was made using Lion Brand Wool Ease Yarn. The purple colored pouch was made using Lion Brand Basic Stitch Antimicrobial Yarn.
Both of these yarns are worsted weight yarns that are machine washable and come in a variety of beautiful colors.
Because gauge isn’t super important for this project, you will be able to substitute almost any worsted weight yarn… which brings me to my next point!
Make it a Scrap Busting Project
This hexagon crochet pattern is a fun scrap buster project and perfect for using up those small little balls of yarn you’ve got piling up!
I used scraps of wool / acrylic blends that I had laying around, but fiber content isn’t crucial for this project.
I’ve listed yardages below for a Main Color and Contrasting color, but you can further break this down, if you’d like to truly make it a scrap buster!
Instead of 50 yards for the Main Color, you could use 5 colors of 10 yards each.
Instead of 20 yards for the Contrasting color, you could use 5 colors of 4 yards each.

Pattern Notes
- Turning chains are not counted as stitches, unless specified otherwise.
- The first stitch of each round is worked into the same stitch as the beginning chain, unless noted otherwise.
- Yarn Notes: Lion Brand Yarns Wool Ease was used for the samples. Another comparable worsted weight yarn may be used as long as gauge is met.
- Lion Brand Yarns Wool Ease: 80% Acrylic / 20% Wool (197 yds / 180 m / 85 g / 3 oz)
- Yardage – Purple Sample
- Purple – MC: 50 yards
- Flowers – CC: 20 yards
- Yardage – Cream Sample

- Aqua Flowers – CC: 8 yards (make 2 hexagons with flowers this color)
- Pink Flowers – CC: 12 yards (make 3 hexagons with flowers this color)
- Puff Stitch Notes: Typically, you’ll begin a crochet puff stitch with a yarn over. However, I wanted a slightly thinner puff stitch so you will not begin this stitch with a yarn over.
- Soft Eyeglass Case Construction: First, you’ll crochet 5 flower hexagon crochet motifs. Next, you’ll lay them out and seam them flat. Then, you’ll fold a couple of the hexagons to form the pouch and then finish seaming with a whipstitch. Lastly, add a button or yarn strap closure to complete a case for your eyeglasses or crochet hooks case.

Crochet Hexagon
Make 5
Note: For Rnd 1, if you find it difficult to fit all 12 puff sts into the 2nd ch from your hook, you can begin with a magic ring, instead of a ch-2. You could also substitute 12 sc for the 12 puff stitches, if you prefer.
Rnd 1: With MC yarn & a 4.00mm crochet hook, ch 2, work 12 puff sts into the 2nd ch from your hook. Join with a sl st to the 1st st of the round. (12 sts)
Fasten off MC.
Rnd 2: With CC yarn & a 4.00mm crochet hook, join yarn with a standing 3dc-cl in any st (see photo tutorial on page 6), ch 1, (3dc-cl in the next st, ch-1) work from ( to ) 12 times. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. (12 3dc-cl + 12 ch-1’s)
Fasten off CC. Measurement at this point should be approximately 2″ diameter.
Rnd 3: With MC yarn & a 4.00mm crochet hook, join yarn with a standing dc in any ch-1 sp from Rnd 2, work 2 more dc into the same ch-1 sp, (2dc-cl, ch 2, 2dc-cl) into the next ch-1 sp, [ 3 dc into the next ch-1 sp, (2dc-cl, ch 2, 2dc-cl) into the next ch-1 sp] work from [ to ] 5 times. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. (30 sts + 6 ch-2’s)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, work 1 sc into each st and 3 sc into each ch-2 sp around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. (48 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in ends. Crochet 5 hexagon motifs, then continue on to Layout. Finished motifs should measure approximately 3-1/4″ across (from flat edge to flat edge).
Layout
You should have a total of 5 hexagons. Lay them in front of you as shown in the photo and graphic below.
Continue on to How to Join Hexagons.
How to Join Hexagons
I’m going to share the order in which I seamed my hexagons, but you can seam them however is easiest for you. Just make sure that you arrange them like the photos show. The most important part is that the flat sides are positioned vertically.
Join all hexagons with a simple whipstitch seam.
The following is the order in which I connected my hexagons. The colored seams refer to the graphic above:
Red Seam: This is the first seam that I made. I used a piece of yarn approximately 15″ long and a yarn needle and whipstitched the red seam, beginning with the vertical seam.
Purple Seam: This is the second seam that I made. Again, I used a 15″ lone piece of yarn and yarn needle and whipstitched this seam.
Aqua & Green Seams: I made these two seams last and used a 10″ piece of yarn for each seam.
After you’ve seamed all of your hexagon motifs, as shown in the photos, weave in all ends.
Flip Your Hexagons Over
Flip your seamed hexagons over so that the wrong side is facing up and they are positioned like the photo below. Place locking stitch markers in the middle single crochet of the hexagon points, as shown in the photo below.
Fold the motifs from right to left so that the two orange stitch markers meet and the two green stitch markers meet.
Place a stitch marker in the middle sc of each of the hexagon points marked with PINK stitch markers in the photo above.
Use a few more locking stitch markers to hold the remaining points of the hexagons together as shown in the photo below.
Weave in ends.
Choose Your Closure Type – Button or Yarn Strap
Button: If you’d like to add a button, attach it with a needle and thread as shown in the photos below.
Yarn Strap Closure: If you’re adding a yarn strap closure, follow the steps in the photos below.
Also refer to the photo above for button placement. I hadn’t yet decided if I wanted a button or yarn closure on mine so I added both.
Buttonhole: The buttonhole is the space in the point of the top hexagon between the 2dc-cl’s.
I MADE IT! NOW WHAT?
