Cuddly Soft Corner-to-Corner Baby Blanket – Free Crochet Afghan Pattern
After designing the Bubblegum Kisses Baby Blanket for my brand new niece, I decided to crochet a baby blanket for a little boy. I ultimately chose Lion Brand Yarns Pound of Love for this crochet baby blanket for a couple reasons: I wanted a soft afghan with the perfect pop of color, I wanted a nice acrylic that would hold up well to the many washings that baby blankets receive, and I had a contrasting colors on a shelf so I didn’t have to wait for a yarn order to arrive to begin the project.
Both the yarn choice and simple crochet stitch combines to make the Cuddly Soft C2C Baby Blanket a perfectly modern crochet baby blanket to gift to your favorite tiny human.

The Cuddly Soft Baby Blanket is worked from corner to corner (C2C), also known as on the bias. I love crochet corner to corner blankets for a couple reasons. They seem to work up more quickly than other blankets and you can easily increase the width and length of your blanket.
YARN
For this crochet C2C blanket, I chose Lion Brand Yarns Pound of Love and Lion Brand Mandala Ombre, both are worsted weight yarns. Pound of Love is a 100% premium acrylic yarn that is available in 28 gorgeous colors. Although Pound of Love is classified as a Craft Yarn Council 4 / worsted weight yarn, I’ve found that it is on the lighter side of most worsted weight yarns. Mandala Ombre is also a 100% acrylic yarn and it is available in 12 beautiful colorways that make perfect accent colors.
I’ve had many tell me that they don’t like the feel of acrylic yarns, but Pound of Love becomes SO incredibly soft after a quick wash and dry! It’s the perfect yarn for so many different projects and the yardage in one ball is incredible at 1,020 yards!

- Yarn: Worsted Weight / 4 yarn, Lion Brand Yarns Pound of Love & Lion Brand Mandala Ombre were used for the crochet blanket shown in the photos.
- Elephant Grey (MC): 400 yards
- Harmony: 140 yards
- Crochet Hook: 7.00mm (My favorite crochet hooks are the Clover Amour Hooks, I’ve never had an ache in my hand since switching)
- Scissors

- Color Changes: Join your new color, on the last pull thru, of the last stitch of the row before working the new color.
- Construction: The center of this blanket is worked on the bias, or more well-known as corner-to-corner. A simple striped border is then worked around the perimeter of the blanket.

Beginning Rows
Row 1 (RS): With MC & a 7.00mm crochet hook, ch 4 (counts as 1st dc), work 4 dc in the 1st ch. Turn. (5 sts)
Row 2: Alt-dc in the first st, dc in the same st, BLO 2 dc in the next st, FLO dc in the next st, BLO 2 dc in the next st, BOTH LOOPS 2 dc in the last st. Turn. (9 sts)
Row 3: Alt-dc in the first st, FLO 2 dc in the next st, (BLO dc in the next st, FLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 3 sts, BLO dc in the next st, FLO 2 dc in the next st, BOTH LOOPS dc in the last st. Turn. (11 sts)
Do not fasten off. Continue on to the Increase Rows.
Increase Rows
In this section, you’ll be increasing the width of your blanket.
Row 1: Alt-dc in the first st, dc in the same st, BLO 2 dc in the next st, (FLO dc in the next st, BLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 3 sts, FLO dc in the next st, BLO 2 dc in the next st, BOTH LOOPS 2 dc in the last st. Turn. *Stitch count increases by 4.
Row 2: Alt-dc in the first st, BLO 2 dc in the next st, (FLO dc in the next st, BLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 3 sts, FLO dc in the next st, BLO 2 dc in the next st, BOTH LOOPS dc in the last st. Turn. *Stitch count increased by 2.

Do not fasten off. Continue on to the Rectangular Rows. Approximate width at this point is 34″ (along the short edges).
Rectangular Rows
In this section, you’ll be increasing the length of your blanket. You’ll decrease one end of the row and increase the opposite end of the row. Stitch count will remain unchanged.
Row 1: Alt-dc in the first st, dc in the same st, BLO 2 dc in the next st, (FLO dc in the next st, BLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 3 sts, work a dc3tog over the last 3 sts (begin the 1st dc in the FLO, begin the 2nd dc in the BLO, begin the 3rd dc in BOTH LOOPS). Turn. *Stitch count does not change.
Row 2: Alt-dc3tog over the first 3 sts (begin the alt-dc in BOTH LOOPS, begin the 2nd dc in BLO, begin the 3rd dc in FLO), (BLO dc in the next st, FLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 2 sts, BLO 2 dc in the next st, BOTH LOOPS 2 dc in the last st. Turn. *Stitch count does not change.
Rows 3 – 6: Rep Rows 1 – 2. *Place a stitch marker in the last stitch of Row 6 to mark a corner stitch.
Do not fasten off. Continue on to the Decrease Rows. Approximate length at this point is 40″ (along the long edge).
Decrease Rows
In this section, decreases are worked at both ends of each row to finish up the blanket.
Row 1: Alt-dc3tog over the first 3 sts (begin the alt-dc in BOTH LOOPS, begin the 2nd dc in BLO, begin the 3rd dc in FLO), (BLO dc in the next st, FLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 4 sts, BLO dc in the next st, work a dc3tog over the last 3 sts (begin the 1st dc in the FLO, begin the 2nd dc in the BLO, begin the 3rd dc in BOTH LOOPS). Turn. *Stitch count decreases by 4 sts.
Row 2: Alt-dc2tog over the first 2 sts (begin the alt-dc in BOTH LOOPS, begin the 2nd dc in the BLO), (FLO dc in the next st, BLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 3 sts, FLO dc in the next st, work a dc2tog over the last 2 sts (begin the 1st dc in the BLO, begin the 2nd dc in BOTH LOOPS). Turn. *Stitch count decreases by 2 sts.
Row 3: Alt-dc3tog over the first 3 sts (begin the alt-dc in BOTH LOOPS, begin the 2nd dc in FLO, begin the 3rd dc in BLO), (FLO dc in the next st, BLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 4 sts, FLO dc in the next st, work a dc3tog over the last 3 sts (begin the 1st dc in the BLO, begin the 2nd dc in the FLO, begin the 3rd dc in BOTH LOOPS). Turn. *Stitch count decreases by 4 sts.
Row 4: Alt-dc2tog over the first 2 sts (begin the alt-dc in BOTH LOOPS, begin the 2nd dc in the FLO), (BLO dc in the next st, FLO dc in the next st) rep across to the last 3 sts, BLO dc in the next st, work a dc2tog over the last 2 sts (begin the 1st dc in the FLO, begin the 2nd dc in BOTH LOOPS). Turn. *Stitch count decreases by 2 sts.
Rep Rows 1 – 4 until you have 5 sts remaining, then work the Last Row.
Last Row: Alt-dc5tog.
Do not fasten off. Continue on to the Border.
Border
Tip: As you work the border, place a stitch marker in the middle of each 3 sc in the corner to mark the corner stitch for the following round.
Rnd 1 (MC): Ch 1, work 3 sc in each corner and 2 sc into the sides of each dc, around. Join with a sl st to the 1st st. Switch to CC.
Rnd 2 (CC): Ch 1, work 3 sc in each corner st and 1 sc in all other sts around. Join. Switch to MC.
Rnd 3 (MC): Ch 1, work 3 sc in each corner st and 1 sc in all other sts around. Join. Switch to CC.
Rnds 4 – 6: Rep Rnds 2 – 3, ending with a Rnd 2.
Fasten off. Weave in ends & block your crochet C2C afghan, if desired.
