Perfect for autumn, pumpkin-shaped crochet vent clips bring a festive vibe to your vehicle. Pair it with cinnamon or spiced apple essential oils to really capture the cozy fall spirit.

The crochet pumpkin pouch holds an essential oil pad or scented aroma beads, allowing your favorite scents to diffuse throughout the car as air flows through the vent.

This cute, reusable auto air freshener not only enhances the seasonal décor but also keeps your vehicle smelling fresh and inviting.

And if you’re looking for ideas for craft fairs, crochet car accessories are popular, especially an auto car air freshener! It’s a quick crochet project that uses a very small amount of yarn and can be made in less than 30 minutes.

What Are Crochet Vent Clip Air Fresheners?

Crochet vent clip air fresheners are handmade decorations that attach to your car’s air vents, designed to hold fragrance pads, scented aroma beads, or essential oil-infused cotton balls.

You can blend your own scents, making them a customizable, reusable option to traditional store-bought air fresheners.

The crochet exterior adds a soft, cozy aesthetic, while the clip securely fastens to any air vent in your vehicle.

Benefits of Crochet Vent Clip Air Fresheners

  1. Eco-Friendly and Reusable
Traditional air fresheners are often disposable, creating unnecessary waste. Crochet vent clips offer a sustainable alternative. By simply replacing the fragrance pads or refreshing the essential oils, you can reuse your crochet air freshener for months, even years.
  2. Customizable Fragrances
Unlike pre-scented air fresheners, crochet vent clips allow you to customize your car’s scent. Choose essential oils that match your mood, whether it’s calming lavender, energizing peppermint, or uplifting citrus. This flexibility lets you switch scents as often as you like, keeping your car smelling exactly how you want it to.
  3. Handmade Craftsmanship
Each crochet vent clip air freshener is a unique piece that brings charm to your car and is also a great project to make and sell at craft fairs!
  4. Decorative Appeal
These air fresheners aren’t just about function; they add a personal decorative touch to your car. There’s a crochet vent clip air freshener to fit every personality and style.

This crochet pumpkin pattern includes two options: a hanging car charm, or car vent clip.

The pumpkin crochet vent clip air freshener is a great stash buster project!

We crocheted them during our October 2024 Mini Mystery Crochet Along and almost everyone was able to use leftover yarns from other crochet projects.

How perfect is that? A quick and easy crochet project that uses leftover yarn!

Yarn

I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice and Pound of Love for my crochet pumpkin air fresheners. Both yarns are worsted weight, 100% acrylic yarns. The main reason I chose these yarns is because the colors were “pumpkin perfect”.

You can easily substitute other yarns and yarn fibers without any issues.

If you’d like a larger pumpkin, use a bulky weight / 5 yarn.

Two Ways to Add Scent to Your Crochet Air Freshener

  1. I purchased unscented aroma beads and a fragrance oil to scent them off Amazon. Scented aroma beads are very easy to make and last quite a while. Make sure to make and store them in a glass container. I use canning jars.
  2. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to cotton balls. Stuff the pumpkin pouch with the scented cotton balls.
  3. Non-Scented: If you prefer not to turn your crochet pumpkin car charm into an air freshener, simply stuff it with scraps of leftover yarn or fiber fill.

During the last round of the pumpkin, holes are created with chains. A hanging loop is also created for the hanging car charm option. After crocheting the pumpkin leaf and tendril, weave the tendril in and out of the holes in the top of the pumpkin. Lastly, insert the end of the tendril through the center of the leaf and pull to cinch the top of the pumpkin closed.

Continuous Rounds: The rounds of single crochet in this crochet pumpkin are worked in continuous rounds (also known as crocheting in a spiral) to keep from having an unsightly seam. Do not join at the end of each round, instead use a scrap piece of yarn to keep track of the beginning of each round. Move the scrap of yarn up as you complete each round.

Fill Your Pouch with Scent Beads or Cotton Balls with Essential Oils

Alternative: If you do not want to make your sachet scented, you can stuff it with scraps or yarn or fiber fill and you’ll have a crochet car decoration!

Fill your mini crochet pumpkin with scent beads, or cotton balls scented with essential oils. Make sure to stuff it so that it’s pretty firm. This will help it keep its shape.

I purchased unscented aroma beads and a fragrance oil to scent them off Amazon. These are pretty easy to make and last quite a while.

Final Assembly

Weave the tendril end of the pumpkin leaf in and out of the four openings in the top edge of the crochet pumpkin. Gently pull the tendril to cinch closed the top of the pumpkin. Insert the tendril through the center of the pumpkin leaf to secure it.
