Snowman Kitchen Towel – Free Crochet Towel Pattern
After receiving lots of love for my Farmhouse Striped Kitchen Towel and Buffalo Plaid Kitchen Towel, I just knew I had to make a few fun, festive towels for the upcoming holiday season. The Gingerbread Man Kitchen Towel was the first in this new series of crochet kitchen towels for the holidays and I was smitten. He got a little lonely hanging around by himself so I made him a Snowman Kitchen Towel friend.
You can find the free crochet towel pattern in this post below, or an ad-free print friendly version on Love Crafts here, Ravelry here, or on Etsy here.
This fall, I’ve been making new crochet kitchen towels, but I wanted them to be a little less traditional in style. Having to constantly pick up the towels off the floor and wash them because they’ve slipped off the oven handle yet again, gets old in a quick hurry. I love the way the Farmhouse Striped & Buffalo Plaid Kitchen Towels hang, but wanted something a little different for the Christmas kitchen towels. I hope you love the simplicity of these towels and are excited to add a little fun to your Christmas kitchen decor with the Gingerbread Man & Snowman crochet kitchen towels.

Attaching Holly Leaves & Berries to the Hat
Step 1: Using a yarn needle and tail of yarn, attach both of the holly leaves near the right-hand side of the hat.
Step 2: Using a yarn needle and tail of yarn, attach each of the holly berries to the hat as shown in the photo above.
Weave in ends. Continue on to Adding Details.
Adding Details
Step 1: Attach the black safety eyes or sew on the black crocheted eyes using a yarn needle. I attached mine between rows 3 & 4 of the head. And placed them 1.25″ apart from center of one eye to the center of the next. The space between the eyes is approximately 7/16″. Weave in ends if you made crocheted eyes.
Step 2: Using a yarn needle and tail of yarn, attach the nose as shown in the photos below.
Step 3: Using a yarn needle and a 14″ length of black yarn, create the mouth. I started sewing my mouth from the left side, placing stitches between rows 9 & 10. I began by inserting my needle in the stitch I chose on the left and worked up and down through 7 stitches between rows 9 & 10. I then made a small diagonal stitch up to between rows 8 & 9. Lastly, I created a small “V” on the right side of the mouth. Weave in ends once you’ve completed your mouth.
Step 4: Use a yarn needle and tail of yarn to attach the hat to the snowman’s head. I lined up the right side of the hat’s brim with the center of the head. I then tilted the hat on an angle just a bit. Sew hat in place and weave in ends.
Step 5: With the scarf, create a loop as shown in the photos below. Fold the scarf over to create a second loop. Wrap the center of the scarf with a 10″ piece of red yarn and knot to secure the loops and form a bow. Use a yarn needle and tails of yarn to sew the scarf onto the lower left part of the snowman’s face as shown in the photos below.
Step 6: Use a yarn needle and tail of yarn to attach the buttons. Because of the way the towel hangs, make sure to attach the buttons on the side opposite the facial features. I attached the bottom button first. Position it so that the center of it is 3-3/4″ from the bottom edge of the towel. I then added the middle button and left a 1/2″ space between the bottom and middle buttons. Repeat with the top button leaving a 1/2″ space between the middle and top buttons. Weave in ends.
Now that I’ve completed my Snowman Kitchen Towel, how do I hang it up?
The photos below are of the Gingerbread Man Kitchen Towel, but the steps are the same.
Step 1 (photo A): With the snowman looking at you, insert your hand behind his head and through the hole. Bring the bottom edge of the towel, up and over the oven door handle from behind it. The buttons should now be A facing you.
Step 2 (photo B): Grab the bottom edge of the towel and pull it through the hole.
Step 3 (photo C): Pull the body of the towel all the way down to secure it. Step back and enjoy your talents!
I couldn’t resist the urge to be a little cheesy. 😉

Hi Jagette,
We definitely need a santa. 😉 I hear he’ll be coming to town soon.
Jennifer
Hello!
I think your patterns are adorable and have made several snowmen for gifts this year.
I wanted to share with you what i did to the santa pattern. Instead of making a face, i use the loopy stitch to make it his beard.
Hi Lisa,
I thought about using the loop stitch to create his beard! Great minds!
Merry Christmas,
Jennifer
I have made 4 so far. Thank you so much for the pattern. I even made one a girl at my daughter’s request. Easy pattern to follow and the kiddos love it 🙂
Hi Maryann,
I’m so glad to hear you & those you’ve made them for, love it! 🙂
Merry Christmas,
Jennifer
Thank you Love my snowman
The snowman turned out so cute! Your instructions are so easy to follow. Thank you so much for sharing! I’ll be making the gingerbread man next.
I’m concerned with making it out of 100% cotton. Won’t it shrink and become misshapen when washed?
Hi Deb,
I’ve never had a problem with that happening with my 100% cotton projects. They’ve all washed up nicely. 🙂
Jennifer
Thanks for the pattern. I plan to make it for my mom who loves snowmen. Happy New Year!
