Summer Breeze Tote Bag – Free Crochet Pattern
Style meets function and versatility in this fun crochet tote bag. I used basic crochet stitches to form the bag’s solid, sturdy bottom and also the delicate openwork design. The openwork crochet stitch pattern will be a fun challenge for advanced beginners and it will keep experienced crocheters from losing interest. Use your bag as a crochet project bag, beach bag, or everyday tote bag – customize it to suit your taste by playing around with color, or by adding tassels, poms, and more! I’m so excited I can finally share with you that I’ve had the honor of being featured as a guest designer on the Make & Do Crew blog. Jess reached out to the design world this past winter and asked for design submissions for her blog that she could post after her little boy was born. This would allow her to take some time off to spend precious moments with her newborn.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jess in person at a conference in 2018. I was so excited to get to meet and spend time with her. She’s just as fun and down to earth in person as she is online so I jumped at the chance to get to work with her and her sister, Jamie.

I saw your Summer Breeze Bag on Make And Do Crew’s email. after I make the base of the bag, how do I crochet in round 20 after making round 21 (the slip stitch round)?
*Round 1 is worked into the stitches from Round 20 of the Bag. Round 21 is just for aesthetics.
Do you have a video showing how you worked in the previous round?
Hi Sue,
A tip that I can give you is to place a locking stitch marker into a few of the stitches from Round 20. This will help you locate the tops of the stitches of Rnd 20 that you will work Rnd 1 of the Openwork Section into.
Rnd 21 of the Bottom is for aesthetics as you mentioned and it is worked on the “front” of the sc from Rnd 20. This leaves the top loops of those sc from Rnd 20 open to work Rnd 1 of the Openwork Section into.
Does this make sense?
